We’ve heard it a million times—never give up! But, at times, the autoimmune disease Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (or Lupus) can make you want to throw in the towel. Trying to keep up with normal life with a body besieged by overwhelming fatigue, joint pain, and the constant threat of a Lupus flare (illness episode) is too much to deal with.
While most of us can find inspiration to go on by thinking of our loved ones or others who depend on us, even that after a while isn’t enough. I’m speaking from experience. As a Lupus patient, I’ve faced so many trying times, of varying degrees, from not being able to get out of bed or lying in a hospital bed wondering why Lupus is so cruel.
Like many people, when I get weary and my will to go on begins to wane, I find comfort in quotes. Although many people view these five “Never Give Up” quotes in the context of achieving milestones in their careers or athletic pursuits, I find them to be just as inspirational and helpful in persevering with the difficulties of a life with Lupus.
