Many people have come to know that meditation, prayer, and visualization are powerful tools for dealing with stress, anxiety, and other mental health conditions as well as pain, high blood pressure, and other physical conditions. But not much is said about applying them to living with Lupus. Until now….
Quieting yourself by taking an intentional break from all the conscious thoughts of a busy life or one filled with illness isn’t easy, though. Like anything worth doing, it takes practice and commitment to reap the benefits. As a Lupus patient, I have found that meditation helps me at all levels of my disease process. It helps to calm down my fears and anxiety when I’m dealing with full on Lupus flares. And, it helps me manage my daily ongoing fatigue and joint pain.
The beauty of meditation, prayer, and visualization is that you can make it all your own. You decide what technique to use to quiet your mind and connect to your spirit. From guided meditations and purposeful mantras, to faithful prayers and quiet moments in nature, the effect is the same—a mind that more equipped to handle whatever Lupus throws our way.
